My current pastel portraits have been inspired by mission trips to Huancayo, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The children have touched me in such a way, that I feel compelled to paint and tell their stories. I continue to sift through many reference photos, looking to create the next portrait, or tell the story of their daily life.
Thoughts
Everyday I take a moment to sketch in my journal or write a few words that may trigger a creative inspiration. Since we are fast approaching the return to school, two colors come to mind, red and yellow-ochre. Red, for the apples we seem to symbolize with teachers and yellow-ochre for the school buses that will soon be back on the roads! I'll be incorporating these two colors into new pen & ink/watercolor pieces.
